Cape Town City FC made it to the MTN 8 semi-finals after defeating Bidvest Wits 3-1 on aggregate to cement their spot in the next stage of the competition.
City beat Wits 2-1 on the return leg match to book a spot in the final of the competition and they will now face Supersport United.
Wits looked the better team in the first half as they dominated position and looked threatening. The Clever Boys eventually broke the deadlock in the 13th minute thanks to an own goal from Robyn Johannes, after Shu-Aib Walters deflected the ball onto his teammate.
After 27 minutes Amr Gamal headed the ball into his own net to level matters for Benni McCarthy’s side. Gavin Hunt’s side continued to knock at the door and almost got ahead with City having to clear the ball off the line and Vincent Pule hitting the top right to no avail.
In the second stanza Hunt introduced Eleazar Rodgers in attempt to lob the ball over the City defenders for the lengthy striker to find but it was not to be. Lehlohonolo Majoro sealed the deal with a 71st minute goal and dashed any hopes of Hunt’s men to come back.
The final will be played by City and Supersport United with the dates and venue still to be decided.
